The Station F-MR
A TRANSITORY PUBLIC PLACE FOR MONTREAL, MADE WITH THE METRO CARS AND DEDICATED TO THE DISCOVERY OF LOCAL TALENTS
The Station F-MR is a public space, set up from May to September located at the Place des Bassins of the Lachine Canal National Historic Site, in collaboration with Parcs Canada. This place, in the heart of the Quartier l’Innovation, is a summer destination for Montrealers and visitors. In total, four MR-63 metro cars are integrated into this space and converted into an art gallery, a design boutique, a café, a stage, a studio and backstage area.
The Station F-MR offers a multidisciplinary cultural program driven by local talents with activities such as: art exhibitions, film screenings, creative workshops, concerts, shows and local products markets. The programming is based on calls for projects from Montreal’s talent in art, design and gastronomy. Part of the programming is also left open to citizens who would like to develop activities on the site.
THE PILOT PROJECT OF A PERMANENT INITIATIVE
This transitory place is the pilot project for a future permanent building called MR-63, a hybrid complex built with the subway wagon cars and dedicated to the discovery of local talents, which will open in 2020. For the organizers, Frédéric and Étienne Morin -Bordeleau, the Station F-MR has been designed to test the cultural offer for the permanent project by bringing it to the public, has been created to kick off the cars design phase and test hypotheses of urbanism, within the mandate of stimulating interest in Montreal culture.
MR-63 is supported by the Secrétariat à la région métropolitaine du ministère des Affaires municipales et de l’Occupation du territoire- through the Fonds d’initiative et de rayonnement de la métropole -La Station F-MR is proudly brought by Desjardins and is proud to have partners : Parcs Canada, L’arrondissement du Sud-Ouest de Montréal, Loto-Québec, Moog Audio et Hydro-Québec.
